Morrowind - Whats wrong with me?

I just can't get into it. On my second character and I still don't get it. Too many side-quests to keep track of. Journal is not effecient. Combat is a joke. Is it just me? Why should I keep playing?

Have you played Daggerfall and Redguard? If so, then its pretty easy to know what to do in the game. But you're right the world is huge and there are too many side quests (just so it doesn't get boring).

Yeah there are a lot of side quests. I guess not many people are used to games with a lot of depth to them and just one way to do things. The plot is kind of confusing to me with all the side quests, but its still pretty good. Maybe try playing a little longer

    combat is a joke???

i think you have not played too many rpgs.... your character starts out pretty crappy and will miss hits very often its not till you hit the upper levels and your longblade/shortblade/marksman attribute hits at least 50 that you will start to be effective in battle...morrowind is not an FPS like quake... you can't just point and shoot... you have to take into account experience and attributes, thats what makes it an rpg.... experience in rpgs is far more important than skill

morrowind is one of the finest games i have ever played.. also yes i think the journal is bit inefficient.... i find myslef writing notes down with paper and pencil to keep track of whove ive met and what quests i am stil doing... a critical part of the game is to make a blanced character at the beginning... you have to have a set goal inmind before you start playing.... try reading a character creation guide at www.gamefaqs.com

Go there if you think you're man enough for advanced Morrowind information. I'd also suggest http://wwww.bullhonkie.com/morrowind/ for a very nice FAQ.

I'll agree that the pacing is slow and there is a lot to keep track of. The journal doesn't help much either.

I DEFINITELY do not think combat is boring, at least not with my theif character. Since he is not an all out offensive character he can't just walk through everything I find. I find that I need to use invisibility and paralyze effects very often. I need to use a variety of tactics depending on what I am fighting.

My advice is to play the game in the same way you read a good book. Take your time and use your imagination. Don't expect some action thriller hell ride of a game. Books always require a dedication of time and patience. If fact if you are not the kind of person who enjoys reading books then you may not be cut out for this game.

Spend an hour or two in a library(in the game) reading books, don't just open every one hoping to get a skill bonus and then closing it immediately. This game is NOT about stat building, killing the boss, and then watching the cut scene.

Do NOT just run quests and nothing else. If you do you'll end up impatient and burnt out since they take so long. The more time you spend just goofing around, the better understanding of the world you will have and the stories and quests will make much more sense.

You either like RPGs that require a lot of time developing your character or you like like mindless FPS type games that you jump into and kill, kill, kill..I happen to like both but Morrowwind will definitely give you 300-400 hours of gameplay if you're into that type of game. I have 90-100 hours invested already and I've only explored a small portion of the landmass. I probably spent the first 20 hours in the beginning fishing village. There was a ton of things to do there if you looked around and talked to people.

Again, nothing wrong with FPS, I have a dozen or so, but if you like to use your brain, this game is made for that.
