    My GTN

Well here I was Sunday night saying to myself its about time I really floored this 8K3A. With 2 256 dimms in I had previously topped out at 185FSB at fastest timings but a mere 172 on turbo. So I take out one dimm and crank and bank. I actually mistakenly set it on turbo for 185 but sure enough the thing was stable as can be. 186 and eventually 187. 188 loaded windows but eventually hung. Still 187 is about as good as it gets with pc2100.
So that was one stick how about the other. I put it in and my system starts beeping at me and I smell smoke. Despite all my knowledge and experience I put the stick in backwards. I fried the stick and the mobo.
Monday morning I called mwave and rma'd my dead board back. I had them overnight me a new one and here it is already up and running. I sent the crucial ddr back for exchange as well. However it might take longer since I did a return and re-send with them versus the send it out immediately with mwave.

Moral of the story: even the wise man is a fool sometimes.
I can assure you this will never happen again.

LOL...sorry. It's always the little mistakes that get you, not the monstrous blunders.

Well I have pretty much agreed with myself to lay low this week. Despite voltages as high as 2.0v my Tbird is not OCing to 1.7Ghz like I hoped. I'll ponder Tbred for awhile now and run a more conservative setting.

One thing I know for sure is that my I do step up to pc2700 I'm getting the single 512 rather than the 2 256's

    Wise man...where?

You must have pushed hard to get that Crucial in backwards. That does suck, at least you where able to exchange your parts.
Also, nice FSB overclock you had with that Crucial.

    Angry ouch!

That really sucks Sapasion! . I feel your pain.. running on a mere 256mb... errr... .

I had alittle trouble with my motherboard aswell. Im running my ASUS SDR setup again.. for I accidentally broke off a resistor from the SHUTTLE board (stupid ALPHA heatsink). SO its on its way to the manufacturer getting RMA'ed. I have 512mb of crucial PC2100 laying here. Which I plan on using with that motherboard.

Although your story is a sad one, there is still alittle bit of happiness in it. The thought of your Crucial PC2100 going all the way up to 185 fsb (even at turbo settings?) with 3.0 Vcore is quite amazing. I have the same kind of memory.. and at first I was a bit disappointed.. and I almost wished I had gotten PC2700 instead. But I guess this Crucial is going to be just fine. .

Yes its was turbo setting follow the my sig and you'll see my Sandra mem shot has the timings in there.

BTW, 256 might not be as good as 512 but 1 dimm certainly does give a slight edge over two in performance benchmarks

    Wow, Saps is human!

At least you got your stuff from MWave in a short amount of time. I’m still waiting for my replacement board to get here. At this rate I’ll have my PC1066 system up and running before the XP is ready.

Hey, don't feel bad, it can happened to anyone. People make mistakes. I killed my Ti-4600 becuase I was rushing through and didn't pay attention to what I was doing.. If you don't know the story, I was very excited to put together my new motherboard, and to put in that Ti-4600. I did everything so fast that my screw driver slipped and broke off a chip on the Ti. The next morning I was back @ EBX exchanging it for a PNY Verto (Last Ti-4600 that they had). I liked my VisionTek better, but I was lucky that they even agreed to return it after what I did to it.

    Anyways, it happens. Big deal!
Mwave were also pretty cool about it. They agreed to send you a new one with the fastest shipping.

BTW, how did you pull 180Mhz+ from a PC-2100 stick? That's pretty amazing!!
