BX praise

3 and a half years ago we got 2 intel 440BX-based machines for my dad and bro. quake 2 and starcraft were great fun on those machines. today, return to castle wolfenstein and moh:aa are still great fun on the same machines. although my bro's system was recently retires, my dad is still loving his for what he does. i just built this spare comp from my bro's old mobo and other spare old parts.

the BX is truly awesome. i've never had any frustrating or inexplicable problems building BX machines, and they still feel as fast and nice as the newest computers of today. We spent under $1000 building my bro's machine 3 and a half years ago and spent maybe $300 over those years upgrading RAM, video card and HD and i STILL dont feel like it's any slouch even for today's game's standards.

my dad is also the messiest computer user you'll find (folders and files scattered all over the hard drive with everything unorganized) and has never had any problems with the win98 installation hes had for 2 years straight. It just feels awesome to build and use a BX system. gets my vote for best chipset ever

I'm currently running a BX mobo in both of my systems, and I agree that they provide a platform for a stable and quick system. I'm now looking at newer chipsets just for the heck of it, but I could easily get another year out of my BX setup.

YES! I'm still missing my ASUS P3b-f 440bx mobo. It was the most stable, quickest and just problem free mobo i've ever had. I hope intel or VIA or SIS would release a comparable chipset sometime soon, though it is highly unlikely that the BX will be dethroned of its godlike status among computer hobbyists, ever.

I still have an Asus P3B-F 440BX with Crucial Mem and a 933 Slot 1 and it rocks. Never any hiccups during installation or use of any Windows OS it has seen, and its had all of them from 98 FE onwards.

With its GF2 Pro it still plays any game you want.

Never had a more stable or trouble-free machine, and i have had in the last three years:

K6-2 333, 450, 500.
K6-3 450.
Classic Athlon 500 (3 different motherboards: MSI w/ AMD chipset, Abit KA7, Asus K7V)
P3 500 Slot 1 on Abit BX
P3 800 flipchip on Asus CUSL2
Athlon 1000 Thunderbird (2 of them, 1 AXIA @ 1333) on Asus A7V, then A7V133.
P3 1000 on Asus TUSL2
P4 1800A Asus P4B266

The 440BX was the easiest to own of all of these machines, including the new P4.

My 440BX board (Abit BF6) died after 8 months..

That gave me an excuse to upgrade, though

Love the BX chipset.

I'm actually thinking about a ATA100 controller card upgrade when I can afford it (seeing how I'm still unemployed). That should really help my overall system performance.

good to know lots of others are also fans of this awesoem chipset.

i'm extremely tempted to mod the slocket for my dad's BX133-RAID and see how far i can OC a tualatin on it? that is of course when my dad upgrades

Two years ago I built an Abit BE6-II v1.2 machine, and the BX was just plain bulletproof. Overclock to the moon, stable as the earth under your feet.

Intel should re-release this chipset just for enthusiasts, and add a few features like 1/2 agp divider, ata 100/133, etc. Call it 445BX or something... I'd be the first in line to buy it

I love my EPoX BX7+...onboard RAID, voltage up to 2V, VIO adjustments up to 3.8V. Maybe not so good now, but back in the day it was pretty cool. 1 MHz increments to 200 MHz also pretty sweet.

Going to see if this board can take a Tualatin, 1.2 GHz w/ the PGA370 mod, hopefully I can get it running and give this baby some new life in the 1.5 GHz range.

I believe it's called i815.

I still run 1 440BX and 1 i815 and love em both.

Yep the 815EP is the newest BX chipset, the only thing I dont like about it is the maximum of 512mb ram
