i always see problems with the PC-Tel / HSP modems as well, but having owned one (and it was on-board as well), i can't see why. i seriously never had an issue after a small amount of tweaking.Originally posted by StEel GaMer
Well the worst winmodem you can buy is an HSP modem. Lucents are the best long as your using 5.97 driver or later. I work for an ISP and know from experince, Lucent modems with the latest driver has the highest connection speed (around 49k - 52k on clean phoneline) and is most stable. Modems using HCF chipset are 2nd best. But anything using PC-Tel / HSP chipset is junk and I recomment throwing it away. Most customers with these modems always have connection issues.. even on clean phonelines.
But in most cases that main factor of getting the best connection is mostly weighted on how good your phoneline is.
do you seriously recommend going over the 5.97 lucent driver? for some reason i see nothing but problems with the versions past 5.97...
and i was referring to steady download speed. the top connection speed on phone lines is limited to 53kbps to the best of my knowledge. but that has next to nothing to do with download speed.
