Question This is a first for me, any ideas? (long read)

whew, this was weird. last night upon turning on my computer, I was greeted by a 16 color desktop at 640x480 instead of my setting of 1024x768x32. Hmm, I says and shut down and reboot. Silly Windows. When restarted, I got the same problem. Damn Windows. So I went ahead and uninstalled the Nvidia drivers via the control panel for my Geforce 3 Ti 200. Of course Windows wanted me to reboot...which I did and I then clicked on the setup icon for Nvidia's latest drivers and the drivers installed and prompted me to reboot. No problem. I get to the desktop and Windows warns me something like "The display driver you selected has not been Microsoft certified for Windows ME and to prevent problems will not be used." What the? I've been using this same driver since it came out a few days ago. No problem. So I reverted the the previous driver set I was using for months and got the same problem. I finally used the advanced option and decided to use the driver anyway (of course Windows strongly recommended against it). Hmm, all of a sudden Nvidia's drivers are not Microsoft certified and not designed to work with my display adaptor? I thought of a virus, but I haven't had an internet connection for 9 months as cable isn't in my area yet and my wife is on vacation visiting family so it has just been me turning on my computer every night for a few hours of gaming, nothing else. Last night for some reason it decided to poop on me. any ideas?

Boot into safe mode and uninstall the detonators, then run this app
    http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/ then reboot.

Then install the latest detonators and see if it works. Sometimes if the previous drivers aren't uninstalled fully they cause problems.
