Hey just wanted to say Im glad the mods/admins are starting to clean up SF by locking/removing all the OT/Spam posts (wow i fit alot of /'s into that sentance) thanks for attempting to put SF back on track guys!

Humbly speaking I've always done at. Mind you I am truly only a visible presence in 2 forums though. But you are right to suggest there is a more concerted effort on our part to minimize the stuff that doesn't need to be here

It would be nice if there was a place for all threads; I think it's mainly a problem of an incomplete forum's selection that is causing most of this. A place for everything and everything in it's place would be a good motto to strive for.

IMHO, this forum is focusing on computers. Nothing more. There are other forums out there for other topics. Some have even spawned off of the community here at SF.

Well I would say that if they expect the real computer guru's to come here then they should be a bit more accomodating because after all: 'all work and no play make Jack a dull boy'. Except for maybe they really don't want these people to come here at all? do computer guru's really click banner adds? But still having experts(even just enthusiasts that will take the time to post an answer to a question) adds value to a site like this and after all the posters in the forums is what keeps alot of people coming back. They don't get nearly enough news and reviews out to get people to come back daily without the forums.

I mean come on now; you don't really expect this site to turn into a ask the computer expert the question(whom they are not paying for because it's a free site and the posters are not really even customers) and then get your answer and all other stuff is verboten now go click on the add banners? You can't have an open, informed, and fun community if the place is run like a dictatorship.

Some stuff should be heavily moderated though: for instance those that like to put up links to those comission type pyrimid scheme things and those that can't refrain from heavy personal insults and the no text or 1 line spamming to just build post counts. I see a war going on now though that is mainly based on political adgenda's(sharkey's) and we can see how some are suffering for it(getting banned for seemingly trivial things).

The site sure does seem alot different now then it used to; that's for sure.

i'll agree with belial on the point that there aren't nearly as many ... informed ... posters as there were previously. i mean, you'll get people who can repost company forecasts and whatnot, but how many of the genuinely knowledgeable people (engineers, comp sci grads, etc etc) have stuck around? many of them post much less often (if at all) now, although they are regularly present at the other, mainly off-topic, forums. at most, i see them post in Highly Technical or, rarely, CPU/OC; the closest thing we have to a community now is (as far as i can tell) almost completely clustered in Gen. Games and CPU/OC.

but that's about all i really have to say about that.

Great work MODS! This place used to be a mess. It looks like it's pretty well cleaned up now.

What this site lacks in broad expertise, it makes up for with minute experience. Last time I checked we had some 21,000 users, thats 21,00 different potential points of view to look at a single problem, and although most of these users have niches of sort, you will run into your resident experts E.G. Gluegun, in Audio/Sound, I have never seen him post outside of that forum yet he still managed to make G.Shark, he for the most part is the unquestioned expert, I could also say the same for CrawlingEye, although the two of them have personal prefrences and what not the knowledge behind the opinion shows great education/understanding.
Guys like Trav2003 in General are also indispensible resources, dispite not have a 4 year college degree in Computer Engineering.

I mean as far as Belial and Tu are speaking yeah there arent many computer demigods around here. And yes the ones we do have do hang out in Hightech and CPU, but if you knew as much as they did, dont you think that General or Tech/FAQ might start to sound like the idle chatter of the uninformed masses after a while. We are complaining about a lack of informed when we have Mods like ua549, that are just a PM away, that charge an arm and a leg for ten minutes of their time.

Oh yeah just to stay on Topic, yeah I think the Mods/Admin are starting to a better job then they used to (yeah I know I have only been here for like 6 months), but they walk a delicate line between inforcing the AUP while allowing the open flow of ideas and becoming a consortium of dictator like censors. The criminal should never question the intent of the police.

Well said, tu2. And in response to what Isezumi said about 21,000 members, that's really not accurate. I'd say 75% or more of those people never visit or rarely visit.

24,178 as of 12:24 pm PST, As to whether or not 100% of the members are active is not really a concern. Even if you only had 1% of the population looking at a single problem thats still almost 250 different outlooks.

Yup its true.. I would say about 500 users are here all the time (Full time sharky dudes )

But there are still a few around who know what they are talking about. Anywy, great job mods, you guys have always been around trying ur best, but now you guys are being strict
