i use "exact audio copy" with the LAME encoder and it's supposed to be the best

You can set up Exact Audio Copy to encode the mp3 with lame from within exact audio copy itself.
Make sure you use the "--alt-preset extreme" settings for highest quality. 100 megs a cd, about.

sheeze, 100 megs? if i did that to my entire collection, it would be 25 gigs instead of 18!
poor hardrive, hehe.
-
You could make it smaller, if you want. But this gives no audible degredation of sound quality from the .wav at all.

Do a search for CDex. It uses the LAME codec, and takes has all the good presets already setup for you. I use it, and its excellent.

CDDAE 99 is the best ripper i´ve encountered so far since it is able to extract tracks in a graphical form. The advantage of this is that it can show the amount of errors that were generated in the ripping process. I haven´t found any other ripping program that can do this unfortunately. However, i´m sure there are other ripping programs that mimic this..

CDEX also tells you how many errors it encountered, not that I've had one yet
