    NV30 may be delayed

    Here's the info by guru3d:

Analyst: Nvidia "GeForce5" Could Be Late - Hilbert Hagedoorn @ 15:13

Nvidia Corp.'s next-generation NV30 could miss this year's launch window "for all intents and purposes," a Wall Street analyst said Wednesday. In downgrading the stock of Nvidia, Santa Clara, Calif., Prudential Securities' Hans Mosesmann said he wanted to prepare investors for the "worst-case" scenario, that shipping volumes of the NV30 or "GeForce5" could be pushed out until 2003.

"While Nvidia's execution track record is impeccable and longer term prospects are quite good, we would rather stay on the sidelines until more data points are available regarding the new product launch," Mosesmann wrote.

In an email to ExtremeTech, Mosesmann said that he didn't reduce the company's share price target, but did downgrade the stock to a "Hold". Prudential does trade shares of Nvidia stock, and also assisted in a public offering of Nvidia stock.

"I didn't cut numbers officially, but wanted to set expectations to worst case. My guess is (that) NV30 or NV31 will miss this year for all intents and purposes," Mosesmann wrote. NV31 is considered to be a GeForce4 with an integrated AGP8X interface.
Officials at Nvidia did not return written requests for comment at press time.

x3dfx Community folks claim that delay could be justified due to nVidia's backstep into 0.15mm process from the initial 0.13mm
They also stated that currently nVidia hasn't got any SLI technology like ATi's MAXX so they seriously doubt if nVidia could produce a SLI version of their upcoming chips in order to compete against a possible RadeonMAXX next-gen chip by ATi.

edit: Maybe x3dfx guys are 3dfx loyals but personally I think their claims are a bit right. What's your comments guys?

That is really hard to comment on, if (and when) ATI releases the Maxx version of the Radeon card, regaurdless of wether the nv30 is on the table or not i think they are gonna be in some trouble. We all know how much trouble ATI had at their first attempt at a Maxx card based on the Rage chipset but, they have come a long way since then with driver and hardware and i dont think they will mess it up this time.

Hopefully he did it just so the mainstream reader would know what he's talking about . Not everyone knows what a NV30 is .

It's a good thing ATI already dunked their toes into the whole SLI thing with the rage chipset. It would be nice to see two 8500s SLI with one another.

This is good news indeed!!! oh wait I love Nvida...er maybe it's ati oh well I hate both of them I guess.

Really I hope ATI puts the screws to them now; hope they get out the max r300. Maybe nvida will have to merge with matrox to survive!! ha ha.

I guess this means we will get a geo4 ti4800/5000 fairly soon then when the r300 comes out then. Nothing is quite as good as reheated leftover leftovers anyway.

I find this report to be a little odd. How did this analyst get detailed release schedule info and yet not become aware of the fact that there will be no GF5? Also, where in the world did he come up with the idea that NV31 would be a GeForce 4 with AGP 8x? NV30 is NOTHING like NV25. My suspicion is that the reporter didn't get all his facts straight and jumped the gun.

    I think it said GeForce5 cause not all people know what's a NV30? Also there's a difference between NV30 and NV31. It's possible a NV31 is a GF4 w/ AGP 8x, remember back for ex. a NV10 being GF2 GTS and NV11 being a GF2 MX.

Since Nvidia hasn't given an official name for the next Nvidia card, by saying Geforce 5, people can automatically tell that he's talking about a future Nvidia product.
