The G4ti200 will be worth it. 3DMark scores should double.
The games will run much smoother.

Okay, I'm not sure with what you meant with your first statement. But, if you're saying that you have a $100 left to buy a new vid card. I don't think that any version of the 4200 sells for $100. If you get the $94 8500le at newegg.com, once you OC it, you're pretty much at the speed of the 4200.

i think he means that he has $100 and that he's saving up for a gf4 ti4200 and he wants recommendations
my vote is for the chaintech gf4 ti4200 128mb...$166 w/free shipping

I'd say for that system, I'd say a R8500 would be fine, unless he intends on carrying this card on to another comp. I had a R8500LE in my P4 1.4GHz and I found that the CPU limited it.

Ok, then a 128MB version of the GF4 Ti4200 is probably your best bet.

Judging by your whole system components your gaming would benefit more from a video card upgrade than a cpu one. Doubling your memory up to 512 is just a good idea in general as well. I myself have a 128mb 4200 and its really a great value out in the market now. Still the Ti 200 or 8500 are even cheaper and for many purposes are near the ballpark of the 4200's performance

Upgrading to DDR will require a DDR motherboard. Then the 1.3Ghz P4 is probably a williamite core and wont overckock all that well so you need a new CPU. The 1.3Ghz willy is slower than a 1Ghz athlon.
I doubt you would see much differece between the 4200 and 8500 your current rig, and unless you intend to upgrade the whole thing, the 8500 is much better value.

Expensive Sushi
also new vid card
Hey all,
At the end of august im buying a new pc. I was thinking of the Geforce 4 ti 4200 with 128 mb. Can anybody recommend a brand for this? I'm not going to overclock it (too risky i think) so a cheaper brand will do I guess. Will a ti 4200 still be fast enough at the end of august? Should I by then already buy a ti 4400?
Help please...

I have the ti4200 and I love it. It is awsome I never knew what I was missing all this time with games
I only have a 900MHz CPU@1GHz and I broke 8k with 3dmark. OCing the video card isn't dangerouse if you know when to stop. Like I only OC mine when i play games. So I will keep mine at default values and then right before I go into a game I will OC it to a setting i predefined. Why buy a 4400 when you can get a 4200 and OC it to 4400 speeds. That is how I feel though. I do not have a radeon so I can not say I think they are great or crappy. From what I have seen on benchmarks the 4200 is better. But if you only have 100 bucks left then get what you can afford no decisions needed.
