Microphone Recommendations?

I want to talk to my PC, but I don't have a microphone.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should purchase? USB or standard et al?

It should probably be head mounted too, as I am going to use it for speech recognition.

Probally almost any microphone will work for the job. I like the headset microphones which are pretty cool but a standard desktop mic will work fine.

Any microphone these days will do the trick for you. Just get a standard microphone that plugs into your sound card. They are probably cheaper than USB.

Some people talk to their PCs all the time without a mic even! I mean, heck, you can curse at the TV and whatnot right? Anyway, I would reccomend one of those mics you can wear on your head. . they're really cheap and great for games such as CS. I got one with a hercules sound card I bought at compusa. I wouldn't suggest this route if you're going for quality though.

You can just drop by you're nearest CompUSA/Best Buy and grab a desktop mic. All mics are basically the same if they've got noise cancelling

I would say to get the mic I have, an Electrovoice RA-20, but it's just a little out of your price range. However, it has a very nice warm sound to it and is great for voice comm in CS.

That's okay, I didn't specify a price range. I'll look into the Electrovoice.

any mic will do. you should get a headset with a mic on it. they are the best as they are close enough to your mouth they that offer good reception, yet far away enough to avoid that rasping sort of noise which comes when a mic is too close to yur mouth.

I bought a Labtec microphone today and am quite impressed by the speech technology in Microsoft Word XP. Perhaps it likes my voice as I lack an accent and speak well. I haven't trained it yet either.

Does anyone know if the third party software is better than Microsofts own?

I got a Labtec C-350 and my dad bought it years ago, its my first but best mic I have ever used and seen. My voice comes in very clear and I can play music in the mic and people can hear it with no static.

Think about it dude... nobody has an accent. If you live in Washington State people in Florida have accents, but if you live in Florida people in Washington State have accents.

I live in England and speak in neutral English. Not Australian or Indian, North American or Nigerian, just plain old English. And without a regional dialect.
