And so I went to the store one day with my lobster of course and saw the love of my life. It was an orange. And it was blue. Blue like the dirt on the back of the apple. It was a blue apple. Blue with dirt. Dirt with blue.

    sennheiser 570 vs 580 vs 590...

i love classical music and i am looking for headphones that will make the listening experience as enjoyable as possible. i'm not too worried about having to buy a headhone amp (if i'm going to spend that much money in the first place, i might as well get an amp too). so now, why one is better for a classical music lover? i know all of them are made for classical, but is there something in the 580 and 590 that makes it THAT much better than a 570? i play classical clarinet as well, so i'm quite used to knowing what this kind of music sounds like and i am pretty critical of sound quality...

i have a pair of Aiwa HP-X222's and they sound quite good for bass-heavy music (i.e. kid 606, september equation, sasha and john digweed, oakenfold, etc...) and they sound pretty good for mid-range heavy music (i.e. project 86, death cab for cutie, slowdive, etc...) but they just don't hold all of that at the same time...and the highs just aren't crisp enough...sure they are crisp but i do notice some distortion.

another thing, comfort is a HUGE deal for me...symphonies are usually about 70 minutes long, and sometimes even longer...and i hate stopping in the middle of them for any reason...so i can't have headphones that are going to need to come off every 30 minutes to save mine ears.

so, what do you think? senn 570, 580, or 590? or is there another suggestion that may be better?

When i bought mine i went to the hifi shop with a couple of cd's and asked very nicely if i could listen to a few sets of head phones. They let me and i walked out with a set of $350 headphones

I would recommend the HD580's along with a good headphone amp.

Scroll down to the HD580's on this page. If you go the headphone amp route, I personally would recommend these. Some say the Grado SR80's are really good for classical music also, but they are uncomfortable.

I couldn't afford the headphone amp at the time, so I went with the HD590's and have been quite pleased with them. I also listen to a lot of classical music and used to play in many orchestras and bands so I have the need for the best sound I can afford.

My next upgrade when it comes to it will be the HD600's and a good headphone amp. I can't wait. I listen to music most hours of the working day and comfort and detailed precision are a necessity for me. That is why I chose the Senn's.

well, of course i WANT to...but i'm a poor, helpless, extremely poor, quite helpless entering college student without a job. i think i will save my money a bit and go for those hd600's and a good amp within the next year or so. maybe by next summer i will have enough money. man, finances are so tough to deal with. i have so many things i need to get...i need to get a car (about $4000 for the one i want), two clarinets (custom yamaha A and Bb - $3600), and i need to build my computer (~$900), AND i would like a macro lens (~$1000) for my camera, AND these headphones. so i need to make priorities...i think the headphones are towards the bottom of the list, along with the lens. but i sure can drool and dream
