i wish the cost of pc stuff over here is the same in value as the US. but it isn't. to give you an idea of how much more expensive stuff is over here. a geforce 4 Ti 4600 is £300-350 over here. also, she can forget about overseas shipping from the US to the UK because she needs to pay 17.5% on top of what she would be paying as VAT.

Yikes, if that's the case, then £500 REALLY limits her options. Latest n' greatest is out of the question on that kind of a budget.

Make a trip to the US. Buy a whole bunch of them. Take them back and put them on some auction site Just don't tell anyone or your likely to get hit with some sort of taxes

Hmmm. I wonder how much shipping is? I would have to get about 6 cards to make for travel if I flew

That is not that much more than it would be here.

im helpin my buddy make a pc for him hes got a budget of about $1300 not including moniter canadian dollars

    heres our plan:

    MSI kt3 ultra w/sound (no raid) 129.95
    genaric case w/ 300watt power supply 39.95
    AMD 1800+ xp retail 169.95
any old cheap cd rw 69.99
    Maxtor 80 gb HD 189.95
    Corsair 512mb xms pc 3200 cas 2.5 ddr 359.59
    nic 20.00
    Geforce4 ti4200 64 mb 269.00

    total 1248.38 + %7 tax CND

do the games comin out need the extra 64mb of video ram? cause from what i heard its a waste of $30 for it.

any opinions on these specs. we will be putting it together our selves, im sure u could pay a local geeky co-worker $50 to put it together.. or just lunch if ur hot/friendly.

G_N_H, you may as well look at a med-range to (modern low-range). Cause even a 1 GHz Duron sys will kick the one you have in the butt.

If not what is above, you may want to look into something like this:
    1 GHz Duron
MSI nForce Mobo w/ vid, lan, and sound
    256MB DDR PC2100
    40GB 7200RPM ATA/133 Maxtor Hard Drive
    56k Modem
    16x LiteOn DVD
    24x CD-RW
    MidTower ATX w/300W PSU

This system is almost identical to one I built my brother, and I did it under 600US Dollars. Not to mention it's a damn good machine. It does lack some future-proofness, but if you are just looking to forget your old sys, this one will do it.
You may also want to throw a better AGP Card in there with the money you save. Besides, you can upgrade this as needed. When you can afford to do so that is.
