    Great P4 XP discussion on

This is a wonderful non flamming debate on the processors. Have a look and enter your thoughts. Don't flame it out please.

The discussion is already debating hypotheticals. Its stupid comparing either hypothetical 2.8 GHz Athlons or P4s with Athlon like efficiency against current chips. The fact of the matter is that the real world isn't built on hypotheticals. In fact, nearly any server chip from Itanium to Alpha to Power would out right destroy every performance standard were it running at P4 or even AXP speeds.

The best chip is a composite of many real world factors including platform support, stability, price, performance and other intangibles. The above performance hypotheticals could just as easily be translated into the other attributes of a chip.

ex) If the 2.8 P4 cost as much as the 2600+, it would have the better price/performance.

ex) If the Athlon were made on Intel processes, it could scale higher.

I'm posting this here and not there since I'm not registered there . This is just my take on the discussion over there, I'm not trying to start one here.
