    Updating Driver (help please lol)

Ok, Im running windows XP. I uninstall the driver for my video card from the control panel, I then restart my computer. XP tries to auto install drivers but I stop it, I then install the new drivers 40.41's.

Everything is fine it registers as the 40.41's now I fire up 3dmark the latest version, First two test's go fine i notice a small FPS drop, on Dragothic on the high detal test it freezes, everytime.

Now I do have my card overclocked, it ran through the test's fine at 220/520 with the 23.11's. When I put it at the usual 240/530, it locks up at Dragothic high level. It only locks up there if i run the test's before that one though. With the 40.41's its been locking up even with the clock speed at 220/520. I haven't tried lowering the clock speed anymore because it always ran fine at that speed with the 23.11's.

I re-installed the 23.11's again and its working fine at 220/520, so im looking for some advice. I got the same problem before when I tried updating to the 30.xx I can't remeber what version exactly.

It seems that for some reason only the 23.11's wanna run stable as a rock for me.

My 3dmark score is around 6700, thats not to bad. I have reason to believe that the reason my score isnt as high as I think it should be is mainly because of the chipset on the K7AMA, The Ali Magik chipset isnt so great, There was a mistake in shipping and I recived a K7AMA instead of the k7s5a and I just took credit cause I was in a hurry to get the system built and I did not really want to be sending it back and waiting for them to send me the k7s5a.

Anywho, I started ordering for newegg shortly there after lol.

Anyway, Thanks for any help with this problem.

    ****EDIT****

I forget to mention I also got Detonator Destroyer, and I set it to run in compatability mode from 98/me and it worked. I left that out of the message.

All I can tell you is that there are numorous accounts of people not being able to keep their current overclocks on their GF card using the 40's. Doesn't seem like there is anything you can do other than revert back to earlier drivers.

Dont bother installing the new cards, you will get some problems with your GF3 and the new dets.

With the GF4 the dets are great, you can OC FURTHER, and everything is faster, and the AF is actually better, but with a GF3 or GF2 dont bother.

I read all that, but I wanted to test em for myself. Im not going to back down on my oc, these 23.11's have been rock solid for me. So ill just stick with em.

i haven't had any luck with a single driver since the 23.12's. and even now, the 23.12's and 23.11's are causing huge instability problems on my win2k rig, it usually won't even boot without giving me a bsod, and lists the file nv4_disp.dll

so i'm sticking with the 22.80's

I tried the 40.41's briefly. Lost 50 marks and some games had problems.

If software overclocking is a problem then overclock in bios and have one less problem to worry about when changing drivers etc.

I'm using the 40.41's with no problems. A tab slower than the 22.80's. I don't ahve enough time to switch back or the patience to do so.

So far they seem stable for my GeForce3.

Well, I get the same BSOD actually, if i let it mess up at Dragothic, usually it starts off real choppy and when it locks up and restarts i get that bsod.

The 23.11's do just fine for me sooooo
