    Lightbulb another bright modification idea

hehe..i got this idea from a friend today of something i could do to my case... turn it on with a key i think ive seen some old computers have this...but was it to lock the computer or what? if anyone knows where exactly or how i could wire my power supply to a lock/key assembly let me know. (i know its a wacky idea, but my mind is raging with ideas right now )

    That would be friggin sweet.

It would be very hard for people like us but very easy for a pro.
    Just one of those things.

I assume that when you press the button you make a wire contact with something, so you could just make it so the turning allows the contact. I'm unsure of what key/lock you're thinking about using or anything, but I believe it could work, given enough work and planning.

you can buy a t radioschak for lie 6 bucks a key switch. What this is is a normal switch only it's like your car, by the turn of the switch you would thensupply power. I have one set up for model rockets. What you do then is driil into your case a plave for the key hole. to the key hole you would hook up the power from the push button turn on. This shoucld work although i have never done it with a computer. With it you should make a sound that is a motor starting

there's something about this in one of the MaxmimumPC mags, i'll look for it

edit: may 2002 issue. it just says to simply plug the power switch into one of the leads

i plan to do something similar, but a little more complicated. i was thinking dual keys, then a military style switch (with the red cap over it). that way, you turn both keys at the same time (or maybe just turn them both) and then you'd need to flip the switch to power on. that was my idea anyway. would work nice with a futuristic case mod scheme.

Sounds cool with the military thing, You should get a plain-type case and paint it camo.

    (ie: generic case)

not really going military. i'm going with an AOpen HX08 case, with a custom side, uhh, cut-out/window hybrid would be the best description, and either a black paint-job, or a kind of acid-eaten post-apocalyptic look. as for the dual-keys and switch, i'm wondering how to integrate them.
