Well, since ATi has started to offer their chips to 3rd parties, there have been a large number of card makers, that used to be nVidia only, come on board. There have even been manufacturers who have never done video cards, that wanted into that market, come into the business and use ATi as one of their product lines.
I think with the slowdown in computer sells that companies that used to deal mostly with OEM type equipment have wanted to get a piece of the enthusiest market, that while small, seems to have maintained somewhat more brisk sells that OEM computers.
