How does it work?

Need some help here: In Serious Sam 2, how does the "Serious Damage" thingy work? I pick it up but nothing happened, the enemies still jump on me and my shots are doing the same damage.....Thanks for the help in advance.

It does exactly what it says, causes Serious Damage It should kick in straight away as soon as you pick it up and double the damage you do.

If you say it isn't doing that then tell me how you are measuring how much damage you do with and without it because as far as I'm aware there's no way to tell ... and from playing the game I know the thing works, hell you need it on a certain level.
