    computer won't "beep" after installing new processor

    I installed the 2.5 CPU today and after I installed it, the computer won't beep when I power on....I placed my 2.2 back in and everything works fine...what's the deal? Did i get a DOA processor? thanks for your help i'm very depressed

    If your CPU isn't posting but your old one does it makes me think your new one is indeed DOA. Can you get access to another computer to test it in?

    I agree, the chip is probably DOA, but make sure your current bios has support for the 2.5Ghz cpu. Perhaps a bios update is needed.

    Just a thought.

    can't get a bios update....I mean I do have the latest one but since i'm using a sony vaio my bios options are indeed limited.

    Sorry, missed the part about it being a Sony Vaio.

    Can you find documentation on your current bios that indicates the the 2.5Ghz chip is supported? Might want to contact Sony.
    You really need that piece of information.

    Not certain, but I think if the cpu isn't supported by the bios, you will get nothing when you power on the system - will act as if the cpu is dead, when in fact it's fine.
