Angry XP more trouble than ME?

I'm trying to set up internet connection sharing using a PC with Windows XP connected to the modem and a client machine running Windows ME which will connect via a hub to the XP machine.

The Windows ME machine works fine on another identical network and also seems ready to connect, but it cannot see the XP machine on the network. The XP machine has broadband working well, and has the network icon showing that there is a network connection. However, the XP machine can't even see itself on the network!

When I go to 'Network Places' on the ME machine, it can see itself, but not the XP machine. When I do the same on the XP machine, all that shows is an MS internet network with the butterfly icon. It appears that there is no network. Both have ICS installed and shared folders set up. There are no firewalls running. The 'home networking wizard' has been run on both machines.

The Windows XP machine just doesn't seem to want to see a network, but the connection icon is on the system tray.

Please help! I'm new to this and the Sharky search function is playing up.

I tryed some stuff on 'Pratically Networked.com' but it didn't solve the matter.

    Thanks for the help guys!

Turns out that my NIC wasn't in properly...I have to force it in until I think the board is going to snap!

Windows XP still doesn't like sharing files with the ME laptop though...

OK, fixed that now too (by logging on with a username and password in ME, and creating the same account in XP), thanks!
