Question...
First off I would like to say thanks to those who helped me earlier this month get my computer up and working It was my fault it wasn't working, I was plugging in the power switch button wrong doh :/ Anyways everything has run pretty smooth except one annoy thing....
My Asus A7M266 mobo has jumperfree setting on so the FSB is editable in the bios. The FSB is set at 110mhz with a 10.5x multiplier (1155mhz). If I set the FSB any higher and reboot, a screen comes up saying there is a system error and maybe a problem with my sys folder or sys file. I can lower it back down again and it works fine.. Now it "should" be running at 1400mhz. Some people I have talked to said it might be a cooling issue? I have the stock hsf on the proc (Athlon XP 1600) so not sure if thats the problem. Thanks :0

i'm not sure about your mobo, but on some, you need to set a jumper to designate whether the processor you're using is 200mhz or 266mhz fsb. if that's the case, move the jumper to 266 and you should be set.
if that's not the case. check to make sure they sent you a 266mhz chip. i dont think the new xp chips come in 200mhz variants, but i could be wrong. i'm not sure why it would be giving you an error otherwise. try setting the multipler at 14 and the fsb at 100 and see if it boots. if it does, then that might be your prob.

I think Booshanky is right. Even on boards that support jumper free mode, many still require a jumper to specify the 100/133MHz FSB range.

Ok set the jumper to 133mhz on the mobo. Boot it up and go into the bios says the proc is running at 1400mhz (i think woot) and 266mhz. exit out of bios and it comes up with this error on a black screen:
-----------------------------------------
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\system32\config\system
-----------------------------------------
I went back and switched back to jumperfree, put the proc back on 1050mhz, and it works fine again.. Any ideas?

What does the BIOS report the CPU temp?
What is your CPU cooler?
AS2 used?
Are you running BIOS 1005 or Higher with that XP CPU?
A7M266 are picky with RAM, Crucial works well, what RAM do you have?
Power supply, brand, wattage and combined 3.3&5V?
And after all this AMD dont recommend that board for XP CPU and ASUS only say Athlon/Duron.

What does the BIOS report the CPU temp?
- Currently at 48C, peaks at around 51C if on for a long time or running lotta programs.
What is your CPU cooler?
-Stock cooling, hsf that came in the retail box :/
AS2 used?
-Yep I put some on there though not sure if it was to little/much. Probably had it about half a CD thick on there.
Are you running BIOS 1005 or Higher with that XP CPU?
-Yep came with 1005 installed.
A7M266 are picky with RAM, Crucial works well, what RAM do you have?
-256mb of Crucial :P
Power supply, brand, wattage and combined 3.3&5V
-330w Enermax PS, AMD approved etc
I'm running winxp prof if that helps. I had an extra 8gig hd laying around so i hooked it up to my comp, used the formating utility on the winxp cd, fresh format in ntsc and installed xp to it. boots up fine at 1050mhz as well, put back up to 1400mhz and same error :/
