Can someone justify this for me?
Mushkin 512Mb PC3000 $179
Mushkin 512Mb PC3200 $229
Can anyone justify spending the extra $50 for the PC3200? I really need a 512Mb stick, and I also want something that can hit the high FSB without a hitch. These prices are from mushkin direct (the only place to buy Mushkin).
I am not just asking for justification, but rather ye or nay on the PC3200. Thanks
Mysti

 Rich? No, I wish. To buy something new, I sell something old. Thank you for the thread crap.

I would say nay on that one. I'd go for corsair PC3200C2 or pc3500. Both are cheaper than that mushkin and ought to perform atleast as well. IIRC you have a sammy stick, right? Good luck

Yes I still have the sammy, if it was a 512Mb stick of CTL (mine is 256 CTL) I wouldn't be asking the question, but times change and there isn't 512Mb sammy CTL anywhere to be found. Thanks for the input (I was considering the Corsair, as it's only $185 for PC3200)

It's narrowed down to:
Mushkin PC3200 $229
Corsair XMS PC3200 $185
Corsair XMS PC3500 $200
All 512Mb sticks
The PC3500 looks great, however I have yet to see any reviews on it.
TD, What ram are you using with your new rig? Also how goes the overclock on it?

someone on the forum bought a stick of crucial 512 pc2700 (about 3 weeks ago) and it had the samsung ctl chips. $180 at crucial, they might charge tax...
edit: it might have been longer than 3 weeks. i have heard good things from buying mushkin direct, some people reached high fsb.

i would go with the Corsair XMS PC3200. if the 3500 turns out later to be worthy of an upgrade, you could sell the old to buy the new then without too much of a loss -- maybe not even losing the $44 difference btn the mushkin and corsair now. it should be easy enough to get rid of a stick of corsair PC3200 that's been tested and known to OC well, even for months more to come.

The Corsair PC3500 sticks don't have great timings on them. The PC3200 is true cas2 and has been performing marvelously.
I'd say go for the Corsair PC3200 C2 stick. Just thank the PC3500 for coming out to drop the PC3200 C2 prices.

Thanks for the review marv
Thanks for the comments everyone, I am leaning towards the Corsair PC3200 now (CL2); albeit I still like the Mushkin, but I would like to save a few extra bucks.

odd...crucial is the retail division of micron, and unless things have really changed all of the sudden the only chips you'll find on ANY crucial memory are micron chips.
anyway - mystif, i say save yourself the dough and get the corsair xms 3200. heard a lot of good stuff about it, plus it's cheaper than the mushkin

You can save a few bucks over at googlegear, along w/ their 50 cents 2 day fed ex shipping.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

I got some PC3200 from corsair (cas 2.5 stuff). It does 400+mhz on most aggressive timings with 2.8Vdimm. Good stuff.
