LOL!!! Swifty MCX4000-B + TT SmartFan II lowered temps 15 degrees!

hahaha! After installing it and working for about an hour trying to find a way to get my computer to actually boot (it kept doing a long beep, then stop, then long beep then pause - or freezing in the bios), I finally started testing. Prime 95 gets a max of 50 degrees as opposed to the 65 on the volcano 7+! I looked out the sides and saw a bit of arctic silver coming off of the side of the CPU itself, but it was on the top part so the way the computer is standing, it shouldn't get on anything. Anyways it seems very good so far...idling around 39 degrees C while running at 3.0 ghz is great! Just thought I'd let yall know how it turned out...

congrats, now you should try a Delta EHE or a Vantec tornado

Also, sounds like you put a tad bit too much AS3 on your proc.

i agree that i put a little bit too much AS3 on my proc...what should i do though? it's a complete ***** to remove and re put on the heatsink...i mean seriously, because of the way the screws are set up there's virtually a 99% chance you'll smear the AS3 all over the bottom of the heatsink anyways...

so uh, you think i'll be alright? i mean that seems to be the only area where it's coming off the sides, and i guess that's because i smeared it when applying the heatsink, so should I just leave it alone or redo everything?

Depends, how warm are you're case temperatures and how fast is the Smart Fan running?

Man if I were you I would reapply the goods. To have that heatsink running at anything less than its full potential is a waste. That thing is freakin sweet, and so is your system. JC that system ownz. Reapply and see what you can do OC'ing. I'm willing to bet you could squeeze more out of that chipt with everything applied correctly.

case temps are about 28 degrees, and the fan is running about 5000 RPM (and it's pretty damn quiet too).

but I tried running it like that and it wasn't very stable so i had to up the Vcore to like 1.66 and now it's at 59.5 at full load...so about 5 degrees less than before.

Definitly looks like you've got too much grease on there. 5000 RPM would be around 60-70CFM of air, and under normal conditions you'd easily be getting the medium 30's or higher.

OK i lowered the Vcore to +5% instead of +10%... I also took off the heatsink and fan and...when i went ot pull it off, the damn CPU CAME OFF without lifting up the lever!!! yeah it was hard as crap to put back in (i had to push fairly hard to get it back in). There was a whole lot of arctic silver... I took it off both the heatsink and the CPU and re applied it. I placed the CPU back in and had to make it crunch to go in, hehe...well it went in, then I placed the heatsink on, and i'm 99% sure the as3 smeared all over the bottom of the heat sink but oh well. So i've been running prime up until the same spot and the max temps at full load is 53.50 degrees. sound good?

ouch, i did that to my celeron before (thanx to gateway's shitty hsf's) pulled a pin off and killed it, actually got a new cpu yesterday, you may have bent some pins, you should straighten them. temps don't seem to bad, but anything above 50 leaves for some concern, you should get water cooling, but a [email protected] is still bad ***
