DXT Compression? Benefits in Real World apps?
i have hitman 2 and love it. anyway, i don't notice ANY difference when I enable DXT compression.
my "rig":
p3 @ 910mhz
512mhz pc 133 sdram
Geforce 3
Sblive
I think geforce 3 supports compression. anyway, any help would be great. thanks.
update: i read up on dxt compression and its benefits etc. but like i said, i noticed no difference in hitman 2 with it enabled. what should i be looking for? not sharper textures as I don't notice the difference.

well, in the case of UT, it was much much more detailed textures at not too big of a performance loss... in UT it was noticable(especially in ctf-face). i've never really seen another game that uses it...
i guess if it's not used for higher res textures, then it's just there to save memory bandwidth so your card can run other processes more efficiently. if you really dont notice a visual gain or performance gain, then oh well...
p.s. did you check all of the hitman cd for goodies like extra textures?
