    Too Many EIDE Devices!

I am running the 300watt power supply that came with my Enlight 7237 case (I think that is the right model number...) and found to my disappointment that I do not have enough powerplugs to support my 6 drives. Does the 300watt PSU itself have enough juice to handle the following (note: all of the components are currently running except the ones with stars)? Can I simply throw in a couple of power plug spliters or do I need a new PSU?

    20GB 7200 Maxtor*
    40GB 7200 IBM
    60GB 7200 Maxtor
    DVD
    24x10x40 QPS Burner
    4x4x24 QPS Burner*
    KT7A-RAID Mobo
    Athlon 900@933
    512 CAS 2 SDRAM
    GF4 4200
    NIC
    Modem
    SB64 PCI
    Pinnicle PCTV PCI

    Thanks!

yeah you're really pushing it there. i've found enlight psu's to be pretty good quality, but that is a really heavy load for that psu, and it might not be able to take it, even if you did get some molex splitters to power everything.

i wouldnt i just read an article over at tomshardware (i dont trust him for opinions, but he has some good tests) but he did a test on several power supplies and put some load on them that was more than their rated maximum and they caught on fire really quick... it was a snythetic benchmark as you will prolly not see thoes same results but in my opinon i wouldnt wanna test it

    What are "molex splitters"?

I glanced at the Tom's review but the main powersupplies that he liked are not available on pricewatch :-P.

I am considering getting a new mobo/cpu/ram when x-mas roles around and Double Speed DDR comes into extistance so I may wany a new PSU at that point. What is generally liked/recommended around here? I am on a tight budget (maybe $40) but would like something that could handle the 6 drives and would be quiet (my current PSU is quite noisy I think, though is might be the FOP-32 I have cooling the CPU).

Also, my current PSU has been shutting down unexpectantly when I go to plug audio/video/other cables into the back of my computer while it is running (I know, I know, but it has worked in the past). I think it has to do with a poor connection between the power cable and PSU at if i bump the cable the machine is history, but could I be shorting my comp at the same time by connecting the cables? Everytime after this happens i need to pull out the power cable and toggle the switch several times to get the comp to start up again :-P. Could the semi-spontanious shutting down be an indicator of an overworked PSU?

Thanks for all the help :-)

I'd say plug in the devices and see. I've run quite a number of devices on a 250W PS without any problems.

a molex splitter is like a "Y" that you plug into a power cable from your PSU that gives you 2 instead of 1 supply plugs.
