How far can I take my GF2 Ti?

I'm getting some choppiness in my newest games, so looks like it's to overclock a bit.

It's a Hercules GF2 Ti with a blue orb and ram sinks.
I've had it up to 270/445 but was only getting 4908 3dMarks, which seems a bit low.

I'm not going to be overclocking the FSB yet as the northbridge does not have active cooling.

    What do you guys think?

Well, nevermind. looks like I get bad artifacts after 260/460

Anyone know why my marks are low? I was expecting around 5000

what's the rest of your system specs? my friend has a gf2 gts 32mb card, and he pulls about 4600-4700 on an xp1800+/ddr system, not overclocked.

hmm...yeah you should be in the mid 5k range...recently installed/uninstalled drivers? also what are your memory timings?

Hey, that may have done it. was set to 2.5-3-3. changed to 2-2-2 and I went up to 5127.

    5K is pretty good for a GF2ti.

    I managed 5K with a GF2Pro@230/480 on a 1.4TB

Not making 460 kinda sucks tho.

My leateck 32MB ti makes 270/480 before artifacting with its crappy 4ns ESMT ram. ESMT has always failed to make its own rating in any card by 10-20MHz but at least they used 4ns. My friend has the same card and gets the same results.
I have this card bios locked at 250/460

The MSI Pro does 495 clean with 5ns EliteMT. It was the best vid ram available in its time and it shows. Got this one bios locked at 230/470.

I find the GF2 is serverely memory bottlenecked and core overclocking does little compared to memory.

I belive the herc GF2ti uses 4ns ram so unless its also ESMT, it should make over its default 500MHz.
There was much discussion about the herc Ti's as I remember.
It was highly reguarded for using 4ns ram but dissapointed when not being able to overclock past about 440Mhz.
It seems they may have tweaked memory timming or something and when flashed with Hercs GF2 Ultra bios would overclock past 500MHz like they should do with their 4ns ram.

Its a shame sharky forums has been cleaned up since then or i would point you to the threads. If your comfortable with bios flashing i'd recomend trying it.

First check ther rams make and speed. Do you know how to read the ns rating from the chips? you should see a digit after a dash ie: -4 , -45 or -5 denoting 4ns(250MHz), 4.5(222MHz)ns and 5ns(200MHz) respectivly.

    3.2GHz(8x400), +0.050vcore (gaming, 24/7)
    3.6GHz(9x400), +0.150vcore (3DMark01 60769)
    3.8GHz(9x422), 1.5v min(set) (3d01 62926, 3d03 42285, Crysis High 1680x1050 34fps) Ouch! She’s hot!

suit yourself, but the ESMT memory on my ti500 (3.8ns) does 590 stable with the crappy stock cooling.

anyways, 5100 on that machine sounds a lot better, you're probably just about right now.

Thats a first then. Maybe they got it right with the 3.8ns or rebadged someone elses chips

I did some searching after i got my leadtek Ti with 4ns ESMT and all over the net i found reviews of GF2 MX's with 5ns ESMT which didnt make 180MHz.
Plus the fact that my friebd and i have two cards with 4ns ESNT that start to artifact over 240MHz.

Its good to know they the 3.8ns is much better.

    Thanks for the info GB.

It's got ramsinks glued on with thermal epoxy, so I don't think i'll ever see those ram chips

But no matter, with the mild overclocking, and changing the memory timings. My games are playable again.

they must have gotten it right with their 3.8ns memory, because i just lapped my ramsinks and reattached them with some good thermal paste, and now i'm hitting 604
