"I sincerely doubt that his mild overclock to 550 is causing the hangups during gameplay."

LOL- yeah it's a LOT more likely he came across TWO defective VGAs in a row.

    Let's see:
I've bought 30-50 VGAs in my life, have never gotten a defective one.
I worked at a box shop for half a year, never sold or serviced a defective one.
None of my friends have ever gotten a defective one that I can recall.
At the company I work at now, none of the ones I've bought, or anyone else has bought has been defective.

I see what you mean Blppt. These VGAs are defective more often than not.

No, it's probably a LITTLE more likely our "friend" here isn't being completely upfront about his OCing habits, and even if he is, your own experience has nothing to do with it whatsoever.
You see, every chip is different in how much it can OC. There are other variables like the room air temp, and case cooling. He might have a crappy little minitower that barely fits the wires, so his card overheats from lack of ventilation.

So, he'll buy his Albatron, burn it up, RMA it, and post how he's on his second Albatron and "why the heck can't I OC like you guys?".

Do you REALLY think that hed continue to play games for an extended period of time with extensive artifacting??? Thats a rather pointless thing to do.

Secondly, overclocking a Ti4200 64megger to 550mhz is NOT an unreasonable expectation, especially for a Gainward card. Hell, i have a Ti4200 128megger, which comes with SLOWER memory and i reached 550mhz just fine. I even pushed it to 600mhz with artifacts, and it managed to complete a run of 3dmark. Guess what? Its still working right now or i wouldnt be able to post here.

And dude, if you havent gotten two bad video cards out of 50, consider yourself unbelievably blessed. I had three out of the 25 or so i've owned in my life.

Fourthly, i never at any point blamed his problems on the video card. The first guess i would make to diagnose his problem is an OS/driver conflict somewhere. Or it COULD be that specific card has a problem with that specific mobo. Dont laugh; i had an LX motherboard back in the day that would not work at all with a Diamond Savage4 (confirmed working in another computer, but it worked just fine with the Creative Savage4 board (both using S3 drivers). The only thing i recommended here was that i had good experience overclocking the old, not-so-great-cooled Albatron GF4 Ti series and that the newer ones should be even better.

I would guess that the same problem occurring with two cards in a row points to a system incompatability perhaps. I don't think the overclocks would be enough to hurt the 4200's.

I understand. You OCed the card, broke it, and then say it doesn't work at default so you defraud the company for another.

You take a product for free that lots of people have money and labor in, because you're a selfish kid who doesn't have enough money to buy the performance he wants.

    See how well I understand?

Does this qualify a personal attack? Please do not assume my situation. I do get two defective cards in a row. It is a known problem for Gainward ti4200s 64MB. So before you go out and call other poeple selfish kids...do some reading first. That way you won't embarass yourself. LOL

Lucky you! But don't words into my mouth, that's very rude.

Not to beat a dead horse seeing as how the last post in this thread was made 5 days ago or so, but just want to get the word out on these Gainward cards. Yes they're bad. Just RMA'd mine. Hope to get the ABIT Siluro as a replacement. Bad memory on early versions and Gainward has acknolwedged a faulty capacitor on some cards that could lead to lockups. Lived with mine for a week. No OC. Frequent, random lockups whether playing a game or just websurfing. Popped in my old MX400 card. Poof! Problems gone.
