    Hewlett Packard

    I just bought some ram at best buy for $5 for my brothers HP 6649F. I bought 128MB of Generic PC133 ram, but the back of the box says that computers that use Intel 810 or 810e should only buy PC100, because PC133 is not backwards compatible with PC100. Do I need to return this ram? It is only $5, but I don't want to have cheap ram sitting around for no reason. Any help is appreciated.

    All I can say is thats the first time I've heard that- normally you can use pc133 i/o of pc100. I suspect I would risk trying it but thats up to you.

    I'm pretty sure PC133 RAM is always backwards compatible with PC100. You can try it if you want. I have never had any problems like that before.

    Poor excuse for a chipset that it is, 810 supports 133FSB P3's so yes you should be able to use PC133. I've never had any problems mixing speeds, but some mobos may be picky.
    My Mom's computer has 256MB of mixed PC100 and PC133; P3-850, Abit BE6 (BX chipset) and runs just fine.

    The computer I'm on now has mixed 100 and 133 RAM and it works fine. It just runs at 100.
