    What happens??

    Hey all-

    I was helping a friend out with an upgrade to an older gateway he has. I was thinking of building him a new system and salvaging as much as I could from his computer. However, there is no seperate loadable operating system, as he can only use his recovery cd from Gateway for windows ME. My question...

    What would happen if I would simply use that harddrive, with windows ME installed, in a new case, mobo, proc, etc. Would it still boot to Windows? In other words, would this work to save on the hassle of buying a new operating system?

    did that my friends compaq and it worked.
    as far as i know all the date is stored on your hd and part of it is on recovery cd.
