That's what I keep telling myself with my 8x burner. I'll get a faster one soon.

keep in mind that most of these super high rated drives dont actually HIT these high speeds until the very outer part of the disc, making burn time differences very negligible, as in you can count the burn time disparity with the fingers on your hand. so yeah, dont pay a premium to sav elike 9 seconds in burn time. you'll be fine with a 48x. those were the first burners to burn the first third of the cd at 24x, not 16x like most drives that are 40x or slower.

Punkrawk, that's a great reminder. Some people will never hit maximum speed. These drives are capable of CAV writing so depending on how much data is being burnt the drive might never hit the maximum speeds. If the quantity of the data is low then the drives don't even use CAV but switches to CLV or P-CAV which still would not permit the drive to hit max as the burn time would be too short.

On another note, it also depends on the disc you use. For example the plextor 40x beat a plextor 48x easily with one disc. But when using a verbatim media the 48x blew the 40x away and burned a cd in 2 minutes and 26 seconds.
