Why is my Sound Blaster 5.1 making scratching noises??

all of a sudden my Sound Blaster Live 5.1 started making really REALLY bad scratching noises and the left channel would go out, thne come back in and would go all cracking...what's goin on here? I tried running the audio through the onboard sound and it sounds fine.... What's goin on here??? Maybe it's an omen telling me to get the santa cruz?/ hehehehe

    guess

sounds like an omen to me

personally i have the game theater XP and i only expierence that when i'm using the headphone slot and turn the volume up or down really fast, not exactly sure what the problem is, but check volume control, a good thing to start with is about 50% volume on the computer and 50% volume on the soundcard and then adujust the speaker volume, then start to change the levels of the comp and sound card, tell me if that helps...
