$499.99 Laptop
Best Buy is offering is offering the Toshiba s103 for $499.99 after rebates. That sounds like a price too good to be true. Does anyone had any experience or know anything about this machine. I'm basically just looking for a x-mas guift for my wife so she can sit on the couch and play MAME games. This comp seems a little overkill for that purpose but the Dell latitudes 166MHz I've been checking out have been hitting almost $200.00 so I figure go for broke.

I checked that out not too long ago. Looks like a very nice deal if you get all the rebates back in the mail. I would pull the trigger if you are looking for a laptop.

$199 for a 166MHz laptop is a normal deal but a deal like a recent laptop for $499 is rare to come by. I would get the faster one. You will have more flexibility in case you decide to run other things besides MAME emulators.

It's a decent laptop. Not a speed deamon or gameing machines by today's standards. However, it will get the job done. If she is just doing the normal business apps (Word, Excell, IE, Solitare, ect.), this will work out great and is worth the money in my opinion.
Keep in mind that you will have to drop $1000 initially, then wait for the reabates as you mentioned. I don't like dealing with rebates because I sometimes forget about them and those rebate checks can take a long to come back. I had one that took four months just to get to me and by then I had forgotten about it.

Well, I'd suggest you get a Toshiba, because I had a friend who had Toshiba, and he was extremely satisfied of it!!!
