Digital Doc 5 seems like a pretty popular temperature monitor, and works pretty efficiently utilizing fan speed controlling, temperature monitor for many devices, and also voltage monitoring.

Check out the other thermal monitors as well such as the compunurse, which is simply a compact convenient thermistor.

Yup I just got a DigitalDoc5 last week and it's friggin sweet. 8 temp monitors with accompanying fan headers to control all 8 fans based on temps, 12/5V monitors, nice backlit screen with a little 40mm (I think) fan in it. Got mine at www.newegg.com for I think $54 or so, but you can pick them up a number of places.
