    grrr i knew no one would remember. its like this big long assed line of code that is put into the run command line in windows. it essentially rips msn messenger out of xp. im pretty sure it was just this massive registry hack. it worked wonders and has shown up here like three times. no its not msconfig. its nothing like that.its a one time command line that u need. plesae, anyone else know or know someone that knows, please tell me!

    or just remove msmgr.exe from program files. does the exact thing. you do realize that command above does nothing more then cuts one associated dll(not delete, just breaks the assocition) and removes the executable. it leaves the registry in tact, so microsoft can always tell what version your using when they claim there is an update to your existing version. The INF section is the same as the msn line 7 in sysoc.inf which adds the ability to uninstall to add/remove programs | windows components.

    There's two other ways to take care of MSN Messenger, too:

    To remove MSN Messenger:

    Edit the C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf file and remove the word "hide" from the line that refers to msmsgs.

    Change this:
    msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

    To this:
    msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

    After making that change, MSN Messenger will show up in "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel, and you can remove it from there.

    To disable MSN Messenger without removing it:

    Click on Start, then Run, type GPEDIT.MSC in the box, and click OK to open the Group Policy Editor.

    In the Group Policy Editor, browse to the following settings and set one of them to ENABLED. (Which one depends on whether you want to completely disable Messenger or just keep it from automatically starting.)

    Code:
    Local Computer Policy
      Computer Configuration
        Administrative Templates
          Windows Components
            Windows Messenger

              Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run: _______
              Do not automatically start Windows Messenger: _______
