Microsoft .Net Server 2003. Need help fast.
I am currently downloading .Net Standard Server RC2 from Microsoft. I was wondering if anyone else is using this, and if so was wondering about aq couple things.
1.) What drivers do I user for my peripherals. Im assuming the standard Windows XP drivers will work??
2.) From what I understand it is basically just a server version of XP, correct?
3.) How well does it work, and is there anything I should know before installing? Its going on a secondary machine, so if anything should go wrong, ill just reformat, and put XP back on.
Thanks!

Use the drivers that are distributed with the OS.
XP Home/Pro is build 2600 and .NET is build 3718, a big difference.
I've been running .NET since early 2002 without any problems.

vidcaps? == video editing?
it might work, but don't get your hopes to high
.net is designed for server porpuses, not as a workstation to edit video
i was reading the FAQ in the MS site about .net and a person asked
"why can't i run X game or why doesn't directX doesn't work propertlly?" and a simple answer
".net is not designed for gaming"
i am almost sure that it will have some ati display drivers, just maybe not the AIW ones
hope you were looking for that answer

You can load ATI drivers that are newer than the ATI drivers that are distributed with the .NET OS.
I have an ATI AIW Radeon 32MB board and I could never get the TV tuner functions to work with Win2k, WinXP or WinNET without a significant system reconfiguration. ATI tech support is/was no help.
I discovered that the ATI board is not compatible with Remote Desktop or Terminal Services because of the Windows RDP protocol. I don't know about video capture when not using the TV tuner.
Good luck!

Cool,
Thanks for the help guys. The only thing Im hoping i can get working that is not server related, is recording tv shows. I want to setup a timer from within the ATI TV software to record an episode everyday. I was able to do that when I had XP on there, hopefully I can still do it. Any editing wil be done on my main machine. Thanks again for your inputs.

What versions of the ATI drivers and applications are you running?
maybe ATI fixed the compatibility problems with the RDP protocol.

Date: 8/8/2002
Driver: 6.13.10.6153
ATI Multimedia Center 7.7.1
Its the one WINNet installed by default. Checked windows update, and there were no others available. Works great, all resolutions, all effects work great.

That's what I'm running (trying to run). The TV stuff still doesn't work.

Hmm, very wierd. The only thing I can guess is that Im running an AIW 7500, and I think your running an older card.
EDIT: Just remembered you have to install the video capture update from ATI for it to work. Do you have this installed?

Yah i totally feel you there. Ive been so aggrivated with ATI lately I could spit. Literally. Their drivers are buggy, their so-called "Multimedia Center" feels the need to constantly crash, etc. Its too bad though, the hardware is actually built pretty well.
