    Ati control pannel question

okay, under the direct 3d tab, there's a slider for the main options. Now, if I want to see higher FPS, should I go for performance or quality? I'm thinking that higher performance cuts into the quality, but I'm okay with that. I have a 9000pro, BTW.

Oh, and what does trueform do? It's always off, and I didn't notice it in the product description. I guess it came with the new driver release I downloaded.

    The current rig that 0wnz:
    Antec 2650|A64 3200+|ECS 755-A2|1gb Kingston Value RAM|17" Samsung 730b|Gigabyte 6600GT|8x DVD-RW|160 GB Seagate HD|250 GB external

    The rig that 0wned:
    HP Pavilion 9800|1.3ghz P4|384 RDRAM|Radeon 9000pro 128 MB|15" monitor (12" viewable )|30 gig HD|Windows ME (Cheaper than Windows 98!)|12 DVD-ROM|52/24/52 CD-RW|Nice buttons

If you desire higher fps, then slide the slider towards performance, not quality. As for Trueform, it is an ATI feature that came out with the 8500, that allows objects to look more real, by placing more lighting points on triangles. This only works if games support it.

I see. So, I'm guessing anything that came out before the 8500 doesn't have Trueform right?

Just to add to that, I think only ATI offers that feature. Nvidia and the others don't have it.

Yeah thats also correct. Truform, Hydravision, Soapvision (or something like that), and all of those, are trademarks of ATI, just like Nvidia has Nvidia Shadowcasting, and their own trademarks for their features.

Nope.. I meant Soapvision, and exactly soapvision, which is an ATI feature for the 9700 Pro that "cleans" the pixels of streaming videos by using pixelshaders on them. I think, they may have changed that name to Fullstream now though, as part of the videoshader. Prior to the 9700's release, it was called soapvision. It was really chesey.
