Post PlayStation3, inserting chips into your arm...

If you have been to sharkyextreme and been to the hardware review section you might have seen a link about the PS#, or PlayStaton 3, here is the link http://www.coremeltdown.com/articles/ps3/ .
In the article they talk about the PS3 being able to play games from not just any PS console, " This means that you can play any game on the PS3, either it be Dreamcast, X-Box, GameCube, PS3, or even a PC game on this one console." I find this virtually impossible. Then the article goes on to say "Now Sony is experimenting with the concept of “human encoding” as the next weapon to fight importing games. “Human encoding” is the process of inserting a small
chip, the size of a pinhead into the gamers arm when they purchase a game. The serial number of the game and the pin would match, so that the buyer has to be present for the game to work." Can someone please tell me that this article is a joke?

I just don't understand why sharky would put it under his list of hardware round-ups, do they not read the articles that they put there?

    Your kidding right?

There is no way any crappy PS is going to pull that feat. Or anything in the near future for that matter. Maybe if it had custom emulators written for it to mimic each machine but that creates legal questions and would most likey be very poor performing.

Not to mention that Sony wouldn't try to run those other games out of legal reasons...they're the ones who sued Bleem and CVGS for copyright infringement since they emulate PSX games...if they tried that crap you'd have so many people pissed off.

After reading the article, it is so obvious it's a joke. Inserting a chip into your arm whenever you buy a game? Haha! You'd never be able to buy another person a game as a gift. You'd never be able to sell the disc to someone else. If you had a 500 game collection, your arm would be mostly silicon.

sorry i'm too lazy to care about figuring out the command for posting quotes but here's one:

"With the Playstation 3 and some surgery those dreams can become a reality. Nobiru “George Uriage, head of marketing for the PS3, said that Sony will have the normal selection of controllers; they will offer hardcore gamers the option of ”having motion capture modules embedded into their hands, feet and maybe the eyes”. Uriage also said that the modules “are far superior to any bio-external controller we will see on the market for the next 10 years”. He also said that the procedure is as “safe as laser correctional eye surgery.” People may be wondering that once the modules were implanted if they could be removed and his response was, “They can certainly be upgraded, but we advise against removal.”

ok dude, i'm sorry but you need to get out a bit more if you cant tell this article is a joke...

Dude- the notion isn't as far fetched as you would think.... The tech is out there and it is already being used. Implantable chips don't require any surgery; it's just a subdermal implant like they use on dogs to keep track of them. The military uses them in the battlefield to track troop movements. The article may be a joke, but I don't think that what's being propsed is entirely out of the question....talk about immersion. Just count me out.

yeah, i know the tech is out there... i was reading something about this dude on msnbc.com who was the frist person to implant a transponder chip in himself. it was cool because he could go up to doors that would recognize him and open just for him etc... but the point is, nothing but a 3rd world country bent on total human submission would ever do that to anybody... if congress ever said everyone has to implant a chip in their body, this country's government would be destroyed by citizens who thought it had gone overboard... and it's not like it could ever get past the ethics board... look at how pissed people are about just cloning a damn sheep...

...but that's the point, in this case the implants would be voluntary for the PS3. I wouldn't do it, and I don't thinka whole lot of people would, but then asgain, what do I know?
    As far as mandatory implants....
in the miltary, your *** belongs to uncle sam, they can do whatever they want to you. In terms of implanting an entire population... while I think biometrics offers a better solution as we move to a cashless society, just remmber history...the introduction of Social Security and SS#'s was greeted with the same apprehension as you pose now to implants. We don't even think twice about it anymore. If it comes to pass, give it a generation and no one will think the different of it. Not that I agree with it.

I find it hard to believe that SONY would think that THIS is the time for such things. Implants of that nature I feel are still quite a ways off..
