Help using other signals through VGA Monitor?
I’m looking at hooking in all my Console systems to my 21” Sony Trinitron monitor. Reason? Wife is making me move the 36” HDTV upstairs in our family room and my systems don’t get to follow! (Can you hear the whips) =P
Anyhow I would like to run everything from my monitor so I never have to leave my area! I forbid myself from entering her Martha Stewart inspired realm.
The systems I would like to hook up are,
Primarily
PS2
XBOX
GAMECUBE
And not so exclusively but I still would like a way to send in the signals,
DreamCast
3DO
N64
SNES
NES
GENESIS
SATURN
ATARI 2600
Intellivision
I need inputs for Component(2), Composite(6), Svideo(2), and Coax(2). Also I need to find a way to hook in all the audio to the PC speakers (2.1 Klipsh)? The older systems running through COAX will be the hardest task!
I am building a display case around my PC to house my collection and I would like to setup some various switches (selectors) to switch between one signal to the next?
I have seen the Key Digital Systems Progressive Scan module but it won’t display NON-progressive scan games?
Has anyone attempted a setup of this scale? Or has anyone seen some hardware that will allow this to be attempted?
If I push the cost up in the 1500-2000 range I might as well buy another HDTV. But I might do whatever it takes to make this work just to have it all setup in one location.
Thanks for any help!

Look at http://www.avguide.com/receivers/aud..._receivers.jsp
The closest fit at the lowest price that I could find is the JVC RX-9010VBK (as low as $330 at eCost.com) which would support almost all the game systems you listed.
Those old COAX connectors will make a single-solution system difficult to obtain unless you are willing to pay over $3000. I suggest you buy a separate converter for the coax and run them into a more commonly used input. If you get the JVC receiver listed above, a coax-to-Svideo converter would probably be the best solution. Something like this http://www.smarthome.com/851105.html coverter for $90 sounds like it would work well. There are cheaper converters around if you look hard enough.
All together, that makes it around $500-$600 for the entire setup, not bad in my opinion.

That still didn't solve his problem as far as how to convert the signal to his monitor.
What kind of video card do you have? I would probably recommend a Radeon All-in-Wonder. How well would just a tuner card work for this? I'm too lazy to look for a straight conversion from all the component composite to VGA, most likely the video card would be the cheapest solution. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm just guessing.

All you need to use the coax systems is a RF Converter. It will take the RG-59 cable signal and slpit it into Audio/Vidoe signals along a standard RCA connection. An RF Converter can be made to handle from 1 to as many signals as needed. Thay can be found from a base price of around 10-15 dollars. This paired with the JVC RX-9010VBK and a video card to support the input signals you want will be the best soloution.

Racer,
Thanks for the links and your advice. Yes I was planning on converting the coax over to a more common format!
lavalva,
I have a Radeon 9700 Pro but not the all in wonder flavor. I also didnt want to have to run signals through the PC just straight to the monitor.
And this is the link to the module to enable HD from the Gamecube and Xbox, then shoot it through the Monitor?

Thanks!

If you went with the recommended receiver, or any other home theater receiver with a set of component outputs, you would run everything to the receiver, then run video out from the receiver to the conversion box, that would solve everything.

What type of reciever would you reccomend? I havnt seen on with all the video/sound inputs i need... can you send me a link to one you would reccomend?
Anyhow the letdown of that would be the XBOX and GAMECUBE wont run in High def mode with out that Box from keydigital systems. But I wonder if I can run everything but those two through a reciever and have a vga switch of somesort...

Yeah, as Mark said she is one of those good 'ol stereotypical cook, bake, clean the house, plant a garden type of women who has her own TV show and cookbook line, and probably every kind of line of houseware available. She's extremely wealthy and she's also been accused of illegal insider trading which has gotten her a bad rap (and made her the butt of jokes
