Zoinks I thought that date you had on there was bogus till I clicked the link, I'm upgrading my whole system just so I can play and now I find out if I buy something before the new year, it'll be outdated before release .

anyway, heres the system I'm putting together. It's my first one, so any advice would help a lot .

    New PC

A couple things about your system.... Foxconn AKA deer has a bad reputation for power supplies. You might want to rethink that.

As for your sound card, your motherboard has 6 channel onboard sound. Use it! iv'e heard the cmedia sounds really nice.

Your cpu, intel/amd, it doesn't make a difference to me but generally price/performance wise AMD is better. Not that big of a deal.

Your graphics card... I really hope your not biased because the best bang for the buck card is the ATI 9500 Pro . It actually uses the same Ram/core as the 9700 so you can step the speed up without any issues. Not only is it cheaper than the GF 4600 but it performs better. The retail is $199 . Expect an OEM to be available in the next few months(before swg) for under 150 , Also if you plan to use AA(anti aliasing - crucial) or anisotropic filtering(not that important) the ATI cards perform WAY better than NVIDIA. Take a look at some benchmarks here

Edit: one more thing, your hard drive. You will be happier if you go with one with an 8mb cache(the seagate is only 2mb) . Look at the western digitals , they are currently the best brand(with 8mb)

Kind of a toss in comment but i think AF is way more vital to picture quality than AA is. Perfect examples are Serious Sam and Sof II. Turn AF off and look at the grass then turn AF to max and look at the grass.

Well, saying a top range PC is obsolete 4 moths later si a little extreme. The Celebrations2 movie was done with a Geforce3. Of course, you won't get a Geforce FX now, but would it be worth having?

I wouldn't count on that release date. Plus, it will take them a month to get everyting sorted out after the initial startup. I hope I'm wrong, but that has been the usual MMORPG beginning.

I hate to always be the nay sayer but I wouldn't hold my breath on that release date. I'd be willing to bet money that it doesn't hit shelves before June.

They already pushed it back from a December release to an April release. Talk about a miscalculation! Of course, the industry announces games way to early in my opinion anyway.

They haven't said yet. I think they are going to shoot for the $15 range. If it was only $10 or $12 they would have announced it by now.
