    New Lappy!

Hey my parents are going to help me get a laptop for my birthday. Ive been doing a little looking around and reading up on some reviews. I was looking into a business/corp laptop which is somewhat light. I noticed compaq had a $300 instant rebate on one of the n610c evoz. It has a mobile p4 2g, dvd/cdrw, 14.1 sxga+ screen, 32mb radeon, 256mb ram, all this for around 1599. Should I get it Im looking to buy really soon as in tonight or tomorrow. Ive also looked at the corp lappyz from dell, toshiba and a few others but none are near that performance for the price. Also whats a super sekzi case to get for it. I was looking into maybe one I could put some school books in and my laptop but still has that sex appeal to it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh and what are some good accessories to get with a laptop. Like an external mouse and kb/ speakers? Ill probably use it some at home as well. Probably will be almost my primary pc I use. Also is it hard to install additional memory in laptops. I noticed it came with 256mb, if I bought an additional 512mb or so from say crucial would it be hard to install or would there be any problems doing it. I basically just looked up the make/model and it showed me the type of memory it took. Thanks again!

I bought a Compaq Evo N610c a few months ago.
So far it is a great machine.

I got the fastest proc, 1400x1050 LCD, 512MB memory, biggest drive, DVD-CDRW and 802.11b. What didn't I get? The $15 floppy drive. All for ~$1900 with next day air. I'm sure the prices have changed since last October.

If you are going to use it away from home/office make sure to get a spare battery.
If you are going to travel with it make sure to get an airline/auto power adapter.

Agreed some would say go for a Dell. However, you will pay a premium for a Dell and the Compaq Evo's are very reliable systems from my experience. Good luck!

If you're going to use external mouse/keyboard/monitor/speakers/etc. when you're not on the road, you'll probably want to look into a docking station or port replicator. That way, you just need to slide the notebook into its dock instead of connecting all the various cables and whatnot.

HERE is a link to a port replicator for the Evo N610C on the Compaq/HP online store. You may be able to find it for less elsewhere.
