AGP 8x question!
Ok I am not sure about this and my friends have told me different things so I thought I would come here and see what the real answer is. I have a motherboard with a 4x AGP slot and am looking for a new video card. I am having a hard time finding a GeForce 4 Ti4200 that is 4x, it seems they are all 8x. I thought I had read somewhere that because of special specs for the 8x that if a card is an 8x card it will only work on an 8x AGP slot. My friends though tell me just buy an 8x as it will work in the 4x but just at 4x speeds. Is this correct?

Here are some Voltage specs:
AGP 1.0
Voltage: 3.3V
AGP 2.0
Voltage: 3.3V & 1.5V
AGP 3.0
Voltage: 1.5V
If you buy an AGP 8X card, it will be based off of a 1.5V AGP slot. AGP 2.0 supports both 3.3V and 1.5V, so you will be all set. AGP 3.0 video cards in an AGP 2.0 slot will run at AGP 4X.

I purchased a Chaintech ti 4200 and it didnt work properly in a computer system I had built. Every time I went to say click on a Window my Screen would flash black and then flash back on. And Randomly I errors along with in saying that I had Graphics Problem ( you know the helpful Win xp pop up error window). I installed a Gainward 4 x agp ti 4200 and havent had a hitch yet.
Update..
Had a hitch .. Same thing happened . so must be something else.
