    HELP! system infected by virus. problem starting up

    I got a WinXP system that's
    infected by the

    Backdoor.OptixPro.12 virus.

    Iuse Nortan Antivirus 2002 with latest virus definetion (as of 1-22-03) and it detected that virus in 2 of my files but it can't repair it just quarentine it.

    one of the file is "regsrv.exe" in my windows\sytem32 directory.

    now I got probems running programs after my windows loads... it can't run any programs..

    your help is most appricated.

    You might try loading the WinXP install CD and run a repair. But I wouldn't feel safe without a format and reinstall. Do you have a backup just prior to catching the virus?

    You my need to uninstall / reinstall your antivirus and firewall.
    get serious about security.. This one isn't serious. the next one may be !

    diamond registry protector !!! Google search for it.
    a GOOD firewall...Sygate or Zone Alarm and keep your antivirus updated...DAILY !
    Look for a trojan hunter/ killer..
    I use Trojan Remover.. free... Google search.

    never mind.

    I found out how to remove it through google.

    but upon scanning my 2 system I found 4 trojans (NAV didn't tell me what they did) so I deleted the files

    and found 2 other viruses which NAV repair...

    damn teache me a lesson about d/ling off kazaa and not scanning them...
