No sound from SBLive and Windows XP

The computer is a 1.8 gig P4 from gateway (the only other detail I know about the hardware is that it got a SBLive).

Originally the computer came with Windows ME, then recently was upgraded to XP (upgrade install).

The sound didn't work, so I downloaded SBLive XP drivers from gateway...no dice...then I downloaded drivers from creative...no luck...I checked the connection to the speakers and double checked settings in volume control (nothing muted or set at low volume).

The device is listed as working properly, all windows updates have been installed.

    Help?

Is the "Digital Output Only" option checked or unchecked? For my system, I had no sound whatsoever when it was checked...

Not that I have the system in reach right now, it isn't mine, but I don't think it was checked (advanced option in volume control, right?).
Considering a fresh install of XP (upgrades can be quirky), however would appreciate any input that can get this working without all the hassle

How bout uninstalling the drivers for the sound card then reinstalling them? I also d/l the drivers from Creative and I didn't get any sound either, so I took the CD that came with the sound card and used those drivers. I figured the drivers were up to date enough since the CD had 2002 printed on it. I now have my sound back so try that out.

Good idea...but...the computer is 1.5 years old, which puts the SBLive installation CD definetely in a pre-XP era

Maybe if I can dig a complete driver out of the net (not just the upgrade from creative), I could try removing all the non-XP compliant software and just install the bare driver.

Check sound properties within comtrol panel and make it is set for you speaker set up. Also if you have installed Creative's AudioHQ setting could be messed with in there.
