restart the computer with the xp cd in the cdrom. the system will then boot from the cd and you can install/reinstall windows. hope this helps.

if i put the xp cd in d system and than reinstall, but wouldnt the system need to be set in bios, to boot from the cd first rather than the hard drive.

sorry...i forgot to say that (what was i thinking?...). yes...you need to change the settings in bios to make it boot from the cdrom first. once you do this, the computer should detect the xp cd and then you can just boot from the cd and do the install.

If your cd won't boot, you'll need the Win XP Setup Boot Disks. Some older cdroms just won't boot to the cd.

Important tip:
Make seperate partition for the SYSTEM and leave it ALONE Install the programs and ur data to the other partition (be sure to move my documents to the other partition too (usually D) this way whenever a disaster happens u format the C: without any fear trust me on that it is very usfull for upgrading too a clean install is allways better and faster...
be sure that the winXP partiton to be at least 8GB and remember to leave it alone and install the programms on d: (simple just select custem install and replace the c:in the c:\programfiles\.... to d:\\program... just change the letter c to D (best automatic way and u wont accedently install it on C
and after that whenever the system is messed up just format and reinstall if u can use Norton Ghost for recovery disk it is also a cool thing to do
I hope this will help
