would a 17" LCD help me in this sense?

I've been spending alot of times in from of the computer lately. like 10+ hours a day and will probably do so for a while.

and I get alot of eyestrains and sometimes my left eye would involuntarily twitch. (I know it's from the computer cause if I stay way from the computer/monitor for a day or two it would stop)
    and my eyes get tired

    anyway I'm currently using a 19" CRT.

would getting a LCD ease the strain on my eyes?
also I know it's bad to be too close to a CRT monitor. but is it the same case with an LCD?

also I like the display size of a 19" monitor. so should I get a 19" monitor or save the $ and get a 17" instead. (cause I know CRT is not measured by screen size and LCD is actual screen size)

I think LCD monitors are much better for eyes then CRT's . If you use you computer that long i would suggest buying a LCD.

I've found that moderate, indirect lighting really helps with eyestrain. I use a single, 100w torch lamp in the corner of the room furthest from the CRT. I also run the CRT a little low on brightness and contrast.

i mnust say LCDs are much easier on my eeyes. Another thing that woul.d really scare me is that if i spent too much time on the computer, say like 5 hours or so in the evening playing mutliplayer games, the skin on my cheeks would get warm to the touch, appear red, and feel dry. God i hope i wasnt cooking my skin with CRT radiation. Ever since i got my LCD, ive never felt this again, and never feel the eyestrain i used to. and keep in mind i haid a a fiarly goodmonitor at a lower resooltuoion than i have it now at a high refresh rate too, so i definately say go for the LCD, potentially ruining your eyesight is not worth saving $200 bucks or so now if it means bigger and more severe problems later.

Have you tried increasing your refresh rate?

Very good, missed that. And a resolution of 1024x760 or lower might help too.

Get a TFT it is better and dont worry about the money u r paying for ur eyes how much u pay for ur eyes?

I d recommend the samsung T series (the best available)

and a 17inch TFTis very close to a 19inchCRT dont bother paying so much for 19TFT unless u got the cash

    and finally
be sure to check these thing out

contrast (choose it 400:1, 450:1 or 500:1) the bigger the better
    brightness 250
refresh 25MS (the less the better)
view angle 80/80/80 or at least 70
    also DVI!!!!!

check the samsung 17 inch T series it is the best u wont regret it

    thanks for the input guys.

cost is an issue for me now that I"m unemployed but
I'll try to set asside a budget of $450 for it.

I've worked with first gen LCD and honest it looks crappy compared to CRT.

not that I'm too familiar with specs. but how are LCD qualities compared to CRT now?

I mostly do work on it but someones go on gamming binges so I want something that's also good for gaming also (FPS)

there was a a Planar 18" for $464 deal from slickdeals.net but now its' expired.. I guess I would have to wait until another LCD deals come around again

well, the LCD looks great in some models better tan CRT these days
keep in mind the specs 400:1 at least, 25ms at most and 250 brightness or above

for games u should look for a refresh rate less then 25ms it is not perfect like crt but acceptable.

dont go for a cheap 18 inch go for a pricy 17 inch u ll be amazed by the difference in image quality

for me the samsung T series is the right one

Well, actually there is no gaming LCD in the market right now *finger crossed*. If you consider youself as a hardcore gamer, forget the LCD. It's just not worth it.

The perfect gaming LCD won't be available for another 2-3 years.
