    building an intel machine

I've built countless amd machines and know all about putting the correct amount of arctic silver on the core. However, i've never built an intel machine. Is there a difference with intel and amd as far as applying arctic silver?

The chip itself looks different, having a heat spreader covering the core. Just apply a thin layer of AS3 over the entire heat spreader and mount the HSF.

No real difference, just more real estate to cover.

So the core isn't exposed? In actuality it should be an easier install then.

The core is covered with metal that prevent physical damage and helps spreading heat a bit. But one thing to notice is there's a hole on it, I heard people saying fill the hole with AS3, but I will say just leave it alone.

when spreading thermal goo there isnt really a difference between the intel and amd chip just size. just apply a thin layer over the chip and you should be good to go.

You can see I'm building a pc in my sig, I've never put goo on a cpu before though. Should it be thin as in a few millimeters or thin as in almost see through?

    never do that.
