You want ot build it yourself right? Also what else might you be doing wiht it? And do you prefer ATI or Nvidia or AMD or Intel? Also are you willing to overclock you cpu? WHat kind of knowelge do you have i only ask because there are some components that are for the more knolegable and can be complicated at times where as others are just plug them in and go.

I assume you wish to build your new system. For a Gamer the monitor and the vid card rules! Go to the Sharky Extreme HomePage, go down the left side and look at the Gaming system recommendations. Check out the Sony 19" monitors and the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro vid card at www.newegg.com. After reviewing the systems, let us know what you're planning.

    Ok here are my suggestions.

Epox 8dra+ $110 (this thing rules it has everyhting you want and is a great performer and if you want to overclock later it will be very nice.)

Athlon xp barton 2500+ $180 (this just seems rigth for what you want but if you dont need that speed then a 2100+ woudl be a great choice)

    2x256megs kingston hyperx pc3000 $120 $60per stick

radeon 9500pro $180 (this card will if overclocked alittle beat a ti4600 and be equal to a 9700 plus it has dx9 support wich gives it a huge adcantage over most nvidia card in 3dmark 2k3.)

maxtor harddrive of your choice ata133 and 8mb cache is what i would recomend should be around $120

liteon cdrw and dvd drive both should total about $100

    slk800 cpu cooler $30

    chieftec case $60

    antec truepower 430watt $75

samsung 955df 19" monitor .20dp $250 (in my opinion hands down the best 19" monitor for lest than $400)

logitec mouse and keyboard wireless optical rechargeable the works $100

Logitech z560 speakers $120 great speaker for a great price.

all totaled you are looking at around $1550 with shipping but i gurentee you that it should be enough for awhile to come and shoudl play doom 3 fairly easy.

You do not need a new computer. Unless you are loaded, save the money and wait till multi-threading p4's come down in price. That system should last you another year, it will definately play all the games that are coming out for the next year. If you want higher performance, just upgrade your video card to radeon 9700 and upgrade your ram another 256MB stick. That is all you need for top performance. Regards.

    Very good point andy3109!
To upgrade to the 9700 Pro first make sure you have AGP mode of 4x available. If you do, you can upgrade to the 9700 Pro. Here's a link to help you thru the install: http://www.amdforums.com/showthread....89#post1534389

If you go into your bios there will be an option for 1x, 2x and 4x for your AGP card. Just do some searching..you will find it. The newest boards and cards support up to 8x. I am pretty sure you will have no problem.

Well if you have a dell sometimes the bios is inaccessable or is very limited the best thing to do in this case is to go to dells site and talk to support they will tell you in no time. Another thing you guys are forgetting though is that a dell usually has a pretty sorry excuse for a powersupply and teh 9700 is a very power hungry monster. Also some dells wont even have room for a 9700. You will want to check all these thigns first if that is the route you decide to choose. Oh and wouldnt he have 2x128 meg sticks of rdram sense it is probably before the time of the p4 ddr systems. Which means he would have to buy 2 sticks of 256meg rdram.

For you processor IMO go with AMD

Nothing wrong with Nvidia also, stable and great cards, just make sure your getting a good board.

If you want it for gaming I wouldn go no less than 256 for the RAM, i prefer crucial and the prices are pretty good right now.

Lite-On makes really good RW and DVD drives, thats what i would recommend.

as for the mobo, its up to you..i prefer giga-byte and epox, but asus also makes good boards. also they arent that expensive.
