    How hot should a 9700 pro get?

    Just built a new system with 8RDA+, XP2100 tbredB, and 9700 pro.
    Everything seems to be working ok but I was suprised how hot the back of the 9700 pro gets- directly opposite the GPU I would guess the temp is above 50.c.
    Is this normal?
    I do have excellent airflow over it with side panel fans.
    The worry I have is that I haven't actually done anything stressfull to it yet (ie haven't played 3d games).
    Newest comp DFI nf2 ultra xp1500-m @223*10.5 or XP2500-M barton @230*10.5
    new comp- 8RDA+, xp2100 TbredB @202*11, 2*twinmos 3200 (non winbond), 9700 pro, Maxtor 9 plus 80gb &120GB, Hitachi CML174SWB 17" LCD

    Hi:

    I have a 9500Pro and that was a concern also. I have a probe on the top side of the card, reading the core temp and it was going to 59-62 oC idle and up to 66-67 oC.under load. I made a fan and put it on top and the temp dropped down to 58 oC idle, 61-62 oC under load.

    This chip runs hot but anything below 70 oC, I believe, would be ok.

    Thanks- thats reassuring. I just put the card in a new system I built and whilst the system is behaving perfectly (managed a 3dmark01 score of 15098)there was definately a smell of electronics coming from it which seemed to be the 9700 Pro.
    Luckily the rest of the system seems fine as well. 8RDA+ with an XP2100 TBredB- got it to 2313 MHz so far (12.5*185)without a problem.
