    Video Card trouble

My geforce 2 ti is not working. I'm running win98 with DX 9.0. The troubles started when I tried going back to old dets and DX 8.1. In DX diag, it reads that AGP, direct 3d, and direct draw is not available. I've tried installing the latest dets and DX, but nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could my GEFORCE be dead?

I forgot to add that I can't access my geforce task bar. Its all grayed out.

How exactly you went from DX9 to DX8.1?? Did you reformat? Installed over? Used some third party software? As far as I know, the only way to go back and ensure everything is ok, is reinstalling the OS.

I used third party software. It is called DX buster. I'm going to reformat, but the bad thing is I have to install Windows ME. Should I look for a way around this? I've never really dealt with ME, but I've heard stories. Is it really that bad?

Better question is why did you go back to DX8.1 in the first place? If it ain't broke...

It sounds like a driver problem, not a hardware problem. If the GF2 was shot, you would probably get no video at all.

Is your display allowing high resolution, or are you stuck at 640x480x16? I don't think DX is the problem, as your GF2 would work fine with 8.1 or 9.0. If your DX installation was currupt, you probably wouldn't be able to run dxdiag at all and DirectSound wouldn't work either.

Check your det drivers. Try uninstalling them, setting video driver to standard VGA, then reboot and install the latest det drivers or a version of them that you know worked before.

PS: Yes, WindowsME is that bad

You say that the trouble started when you started playing around with the OS & Software, which makes me think that the OS & Software changes are the problem. Det's are notoriously poor at uninstalling, and when you mix in a downgrade of DirectX, then I definitely think you need to re-install Windows and start again.

Yeah I do think you are going to have to a complete reinstall of the OS to 100000000% make sure you have this problem resolved.

    Are you running WIN ME???
