    9000 pro or ti4200 ?

Hi, friend of mine is looking to upgrade his tnt2 with a newer video card and really doesn't want to spend a lot of money. He has a p4 1.4 with 256mb ram. The system is almost 2 years old now. I am a NVidia user for now, (9700 pro coming) and was wondering of the two cards which would be most practical for him. He does play some games: UT2k3, the new C&C and a few others. Thanks in advance for any help.

9000 is a POS. dont even kid in that way dude. Get a 9500 instead. GF4200 is a DX8 card. At least 9500 is DX9 and will last you longer.

But I would wait until the next video cards get released next month. Then prices will really drop.

Otherwise he can pick up an 8500/9100 for about $90, as a cheap stopgap before DX9 cards mature enough, and become viable. 8500/9100 will smoke any 9000 and is as cheap as chips.

Thanks for the input, I have to admit I know very little when it comes to ATI products. (but willing to learn ) My friend does not want to spend over $100.00, so I am limited on reccomendations.

Id rather have a Ti4200 as my stop gap card than a 8500/9100,as long as the price differance is not too great.

I would definitely get the Ti4200. Much better performance and better bang for the buck.

For about $30 difference I would say that its really tough.

There is no doubt that the 4200 just plain has more ponies under the hood. But the Ati is at a sweet price.

Very sweet indeed. You can take your gf to dinner for that price difference and be home in time for a quick game of Unreal 2 with your brand spanking new 8500. lol!

Your friend shouldn't think about the 9000pro unless he is seriously budget oriented. Pick up a 4200 or 8500/9100.
