    Business Week feature on Linux

    One of the reasons why I put Mandrake on my machine was to gain experience with it thinking I probably would need it someday. Looks like I was right. I'm glad to see Linux is gaining some ground. Maybe now Microsoft will try to improve Windows. Although, I'm still not comfortable with the whole free software thing.

    I've never been able to understand this. Why wouldn't you want software to be free? Do you feel like you get shorted because you dont get a receipt? If you really want, a lot of the main projects offer some sort of pay program if you really want to spend money. And the people that keep free software going are also the people fighting for open standards which benefit everyone.

    Why wouldn't you want software to be free? Do you feel like you get shorted because you dont get a receipt?
    I feel like I should be paying people for their services (i.e. making software). I have a friend who pretty much downloads games off the internet and it pisses me off to see him playing full versions of games he didn't buy. I mean come on, these people make a living off programming. What's wrong with paying someone for their products?

    And just for the record, I support open source software. I think the idea is great but free software I'm still not convinced on.
